The capital, Vienna, has ranked at or near the top of international quality-of-life surveys for many years. Learning German in Austria offers the opportunity to combine high-quality language education with a living experience surrounded by music, art and history.
Studying a language in Austria offers the opportunity to learn German in the heart of Europe, in a safe environment with high standards.
Language schools in Austria teach six levels, from A1 to C2, based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Before starting the course, you take a placement test and are placed in the class that suits you best. Classes develop listening, speaking, reading and writing skills together through communicative methods.
In Austria, German can be studied at private language schools, university language centers and university preparation programs (Vorstudienlehrgang). Many language schools offer preparation for ÖSD, Austria's national German exam, as well as the Goethe-Zertifikat and telc exams.
ÖSD certificates are widely accepted in university applications in Austria, in visa and residence permit processes and in job applications.
Language schools in Austria offer a variety of programs to suit different goals and schedules:
There are high-quality language schools in many Austrian cities, each offering a different atmosphere:
Language school prices in Austria vary depending on the city, the type of program, the number of lessons per week and the length of the course. Intensive courses, one-to-one lessons and summer camps cost more than general courses. University preparation programs are usually offered with semester fees.
Many language schools offer discounts for longer enrollments. When planning your budget, you should account for the registration fee, course materials, accommodation, health insurance, exam fees and transport costs in addition to the course fee.
At NGGlobal, we share the current prices and promotions of our partner schools with you and work with you to choose the program that best fits your budget.
Language school students in Austria can choose from accommodation options to suit different budgets:
In cities such as Vienna and Salzburg, demand for accommodation is high, especially in the summer and at the start of semesters, so early booking is recommended.
Turkish citizens attending a language school in Austria apply for different types of visas depending on the length of the course. A Schengen visa can be obtained for short courses, and a limited-duration national visa (type D) for longer courses.
The visa application requires an enrollment confirmation from the language school, proof of course fee payment, proof of financial means, comprehensive health insurance and proof of accommodation. Applications are made through Austria's missions in Turkey or authorized visa application centers.
In Austria, a long-term residence permit is generally granted not for a language course alone, but to students who have been admitted by a university and attend a university preparation program. For this reason, if you are planning university studies in Austria, it is best to apply to a university first, obtain conditional admission and plan your language studies around this admission. At NGGlobal, we work with you to identify the right visa and residence permit path for your goals.
It is generally not possible to work on a visa issued only for a language course in Austria. For this reason, when planning your language studies in Austria, you need to prepare a budget that covers all your expenses.
Students holding a residence permit for university students have the opportunity to work under certain conditions and for a limited number of hours. Students who start university after their language studies can benefit from these rights and gain work experience in Austria.
The cost of living in Austria is similar to the Western European average. Vienna offers a reasonable cost for the quality of life it provides, while accommodation may be more expensive in tourist cities such as Salzburg and Innsbruck. Graz and Linz are more affordable options.
Austria's public transport system is highly developed and reliable. Students can travel affordably within cities with discounted transport passes. Many museums, theaters and operas also offer discounted tickets to students.
Social life in Austria is very rich, with concerts, festivals, Christmas markets, historic coffeehouses and skiing and hiking routes in the Alps. The large Turkish community in Vienna also makes it easier for Turkish students to settle in.
