The University of Birmingham requires proof of English language proficiency from international students. This evidence can be an IELTS, TOEFL or equivalent exam result. Admission requirements vary for each department, but generally require a score between 6.0-7.0 for IELTS or 80-100 for TOEFL. A higher score may be required for some sections.

However, students who do not meet the language proficiency requirements can enroll in English language courses offered by the university's English Language Teaching Center.
